The state of Quintana Roo is a diver’s paradise. It is home to the second largest barrier reef in the world. The Yucatan Peninsula is home to countless miles of beautiful beaches, offering easy-to-reach snorkeling and scuba diving locations.
Watersports of all kind are very popular in the region.
The landlubbers can enjoy the well-preserved remains of the once-great civilizations of the Mayans and Aztecs, which are only a day’s journey from Cancun.
Dive deep into the mystery of the Mayas at the Ruinas Del Rey, a small archaeological site located at the end of the Cancun’s Hotel Zone. The tranquility of the ruins makes them an ideal place to take a stroll.
There are many area attractions and plenty of opportunities to sightsee. The Quintana Roo area has so many things to see and do you will have to carefully evaluate your options as you can’t possible do it all in one trip.
In the surrounding area there are theme parks that use nature as a way to provide entertainment such as Xcaret and Xel Ha. And there are water parks like Nizuc, Wet n’ Wild, and Xplor EcoPark. They are all designed for the particular tastes and needs of visitors, who may also choose to visit the ecological reserves to have direct contact with sea animals; observe birds, mammals, amphibians, and reptiles; and learn more about the Mayan culture.
At the heart of the hotel area lies Cancun’s Archaeological Museum, where tourists can observe more than one hundred archaeological artifacts discovered in excavations of pre-Hispanic sites in Quintana Roo.
For those wishing to get a taste of local culture, visit the Cultural House of Cancun. Located in a contemporary building designed using basic Mayan architectural proportions, concerts, plays, poetry readings, art exhibitions, and local cultural displays are hosted here.
